We are searching for a Nurse Manager to be accountable for the 24-hour operations of a specific nursing unit.
Must have a current NYS license

|
|
Essential Job Functions:
Clinical Direction
Plans and establishes processes that support the maintenance of 24-hour accountability for management of unit activities.
Creates unit specific structure standards and communicates to all staff
Modifies structure standards based on process improvement opportunities, professional practice changes, and unit needs.
Responsible for unit compliance with NYS Department of Health, JCAHO and OSHA regulations as well as hospital Infection Control and Environment of Care policies.
Coordinates and supervises patient care on the clinical unit.
Creates and modifies clinical practice standards based on current knowledge of clinical specialty and regulations.
Establishes and communicates care processes, seeks feedback about effectiveness from staff and patients.
Modifies processes to enhance effectiveness and maximize staff efficiency.
Holds all staff accountable for meeting established unit based and departmental standards.
Creates an environment that enhances professional development and customer atisfaction.
Identifies and promotes appropriate candidates through ASPN.
Mentors staff in their assigned care delivery, committee or project roles on the unit and within the hospital.
Continually surveys patients and families to ascertain satisfaction and performance improvement opportunities.
Conducts monthly staff meetings in a participating manner.
Establishes and maintains an effective recruitment and retention program.
Budget
Maintains fiscal accountability.
Develops a department budget that supports clinical needs and is fiscally responsible.
Operates department within budget or prepares solid justification for variances.
Coordinates requests and purchase of supplies and equipment.
Performance Improvement
Continually improves department performance.
Establishes and executes a goal-directed, evidence-based performance improvement program.
With input from staff, establishes unit-based standards and processes that result in improved outcomes.
Unit staffing patterns and processes are designed to provide patient and staff safety.
Interdisciplinary Activities.
Establishes and maintains respectful and effective working relationships with managers within and outside of the Nursing department and medical providers.
Participates and/or leads interdisciplinary efforts to improve care delivery and staff support.
Self/Professional Development
Sets and achieves realistic goals that are tied to hospital mission.
Is self directed in pursuit of continuing education to continually improve own level of practice.
Maintains current knowledge base in clinical specialty, utilization management and community resources.
Identifies knowledge and skill needs through self-assessment, peer and supervisor review.
Participates in ongoing educational pursuits to maintain and improve competence.
Coordinates and provides formal and informal inservices based on needs assessment.
Demonstrates initiative in obtaining and sharing information about professional issues.
Safety
Is aware of emergency procedures, fire and safety guidelines for assigned area; takes responsibility to notify appropriate person(s) of any hazards.
Maintains safe environment by following all written standards and appropriately using reporting mechanisms.
Demonstrates the ability to care for patients for the neonate to geriatric age range, as defined by the unit specific standards appropriate to care setting.
Demonstrates proactive action to avoid potential risk situations.
