The Director of Underwriting’s primary objective is for the underwriting profitability of the company to meet or exceed budget. The Director of Underwriting is responsible for setting premium rates for the companys insurance and non-insurance programs and negotiating rate decisions with the Sales & Marketing departments (or clients, if necessary) and for approving policy language, pricing and underwriting requirements for all new products. Director of Underwriting is responsible for establishing underwriting guidelines and standard tools for pricing and evaluating results and for managing underwriters and analysts in completing these tasks.

The Director of Underwriting's Responsibilities are as follows:
Rate Setting (Group & Retail Travel, Bank Card, Healthcare)
New business
Renewal business
Rate negotiations
Communication with Marketing and other company departments
30% Development of Pricing Tools

Expense analyses
Trend analysis
Review of policies & procedures
20% Client and LOB Management
Account, product, agency-monitoring and performance improvement planning
Periodic forecasting
Client-specific reporting

WORKING CONDITIONS
Normal office environment; some overtime required.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Strong analytical skills.
Excellent written, verbal and listening skills.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Excellent organizational skills.
Travel insurance knowledge highly desired.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelors Degree in business, finance, economics or related field, or equivalent work experience.
Ten or more years professional experience in underwriting or product pricing/financial analysis, with a minimum of five years underwriting experience.
Minimum of three years management experience.
Experience working with reinsurance highly desired.
Proficiency in MS Excel and MS Powerpoint.
Insurance agent’s license, or FLMI or CPCU designation desired.
Client offers a base salary plus bonus. Eligible to participate in benefits program including medical and dental insurance, 401K and more.
