This job is responsible for managing all aspects of underwriting to enable the business to make sound credit decisions, improve service and efficiency, maintain relations with sales and operations partners, while managing credit quality. The incumbent provides leadership, guidance, and support to a staff of Underwriters, and will be responsible for underwriting files as needed while ensuring administrative and operational compliance with regulatory requirements and policies and procedures related to underwriting.
This person will also develop the skills of subordinates through a combination of goal-setting, delegation, training, counseling, and performance management, recommends and approves staffing levels and personnel actions such as hiring, firing, promotions, transfers, salary actions and staff training, establishes and approves performance goals, conducts performance appraisal reviews, documents performance, and recommends, executes and approves disciplinary action.
This position will require regular interaction with Branch Managers, Loan Officers, Processors and other staff. This person will be responsible for assessing work flow and quality and will be a key contributor developing process/procedures for improvement in these areas and developing programs related to underwriting, loan scenarios, quality, efficiencies, etc.

The Requirements of the Underwriting Supervisor are as Follows:
5 years of progressively responsible mortgage underwriting experience.
2 years in a lead or supervisory capacity.
Demonstrates effective leadership techniques.
Demonstrated ability to apply local, state, and federal regulations relating to loan operation activities.
Excellent analytical and decision making skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
A flexible and customer service oriented underwriting mentality where every option is exhausted to make a loan work.
Strong negotiation skills.
Thorough knowledge of MI policies.
Thorough knowledge of complex personal and business financial analysis and an expertise in tax return and balance sheet analysis, including both cash flow and AGI methods.
Knowledge and proficiency in all levels of mortgage underwriting including Government, Agency and Jumbo lending. (Super Jumbo a plus).
Computerized Homes Underwriting Management System's (CHUMS) license and VA/SAPP.
